Is hotornot.com Safe?

I had problems with photos uploading and verification process, which was very long. Then my profile was activated, but blocked in a week. Trust me, I didn't break any rules. The few contacts I had there were lost, but maybe it's for the better. I've never had any problems with my profile on ***** and other dating sites, so I went back there, actually they have better women and just awesome customer service compared to Hotornot. The only positive moment in my experience with Hotornot was that I haven't spent any money on it, just time.

Although recent security scans came up clean the list of problems with it- and many sites like it- are gruesome: Too many of these sites have fake profiles. How else do dating sites start on day 1 with millions of members? Too many are privacy slaugherhouses. When they force you to fill out the profiles it is just so they have more data to sell. Too many wont remove profiles- this one stores them permenantly- even after profile deletion! Post pictures and good luck in ever regaining control of them. Too many run scams to get people to pay for memberships- including fake messages along with the fake profiles. This one had a past history of malware. It wont work without installing apps and making users hand over everything from the data harvesting Facebook. Basically IMO it lies about hooking up in order to trick suckers into handing over their data. Once they get hold of your meta-data it is game over. You don't need to even say anything. They already have more than you can imagine. It also requires handing over a phone number. The privacy policy is HORRIFIC and any legal claims fall under English law. They retain the right to use your data in their ads. Users probably get no compensation. It also uses LSO supercookies. I also find many of the positive reviews here to be suspicious. Some of them reek of fraud. THE BOTTOM LINE: DARK RED!

Watch out for this one! It pushes you to invite and just gives the first and last names away from other Hot or Not users you've liked. This has been one of the worst cases of privacy issues I've encountered in a long time. Keep away at all times and do NOT connect your Facebook!

UPDATE for 2014: HotorNot supposedly changed their user support procedures and are more compliant with user requests now.
