Is portableturk.com Safe?

There are several issues with this site that revolve around malware and pirating. Piracy/Copyright Infringement: The site distributes packaged versions of software that can be placed on your flashdisk or other removable devices, and most often the programs offered are pirated versions that either have had the trial version replaced with the full version, come with a key generator, or come with some sort of cracking program or cracked version of 1 or more files that gives the user full access. As part of the "freeing" of the software, some programs don't have full operation (no save game, no sound, etc.). Items posted to this site are often quickly removed from the filehosting site they were uploaded to because of copyright infringements, especially if the software is very popular. The site also distributes scanned material that is copyrighted from videos, training packages, books, magazines, PDFs and other sources. Malware: Many of the programs on offer at PortableTurk are packaged with some sort of trojan, worm, virus or other malware (including spyware and adware). Sometimes antiviral programs detect these but more often the malware is very well hidden (sometimes within the program you downloaded, sometimes as a separate file that is installed when you decompress the whole download). The most common one is a trojan, which acts to distribute other types of malware and/or provide a "secret entrance" for hackers once the download is expanded. Static items such as books and magazines are generally free of malware but may be packaged (via a compression tool like 7z, WinRAR or WinZip) with separate files that contain malware. It is not recommended that you download anything offered from this website because of the legal implications as well as the risk of compromising your computer's security.

Some pages attempt to redirect you to web servers or web pages that have already been blocked by the WOT community. My advice: Go to a safer app downloading website. There is no point in risking downloads from 1 website while there are more websites that are much safer.
