site is run by nitwits, seeing as it bans conservative thought and promotes progressive politics, and considering most users on it are conservative. great business model, lol.

Ravelry is a community of people who love yarn.  Started by knitters, it is a user-built source of information on yarn, patterns, textiles, and forums.  Probably the best yarn-based community on the web. I've never seen anything untoward on this site. There may be some adult content, but the hosts have a system in place to keep this separate from the rest of the site. I've never been able to find it.

Wonderful community, haven't noted anything which looks in any way suspicious/unsuitable.

Friendly, useful fiber site - totally love it. It's devoted to needle arts for people who are old enough to read; this site has a focus and keeps it focus over time. However, I would be perfectly okay letting any children search this site freely.

I have been a member of this site for just about a year, and have many friends that have been on this site for MANY years. So they won't go down the path of religion, that in it's self makes me feel more at home. I really think that someone HERE just being a little touch feely. If you need G_D in your life every single moment then stay in church and wrap your life around that. I have found nothing unacceptable about the site at all, ok only one thing we don't need members like yo, so go away and leave us alone!!!! There are no X-Rated things that go on here, we are a bunch of ladies and gents just having a good time and having a lot of fun here and from what I understand is that you must be at least 18 to join. I have never had any spam or unwanted downloads from this site, when uploading photo's for knitting projects you are asked to rate their suitability so that makes it reasonably child safe too.

Ravelry is one of the friendliest sites I've ever found on the net. Yes, it is an adult site in that it addresses more adult interests rather than of kids (though there are a lot of fun toys that would interest younger fiber artists). They have taken steps to remove 'Naughty' patterns from the "recently added" review on the pattern search page. Moderators are available on all forums and derogatory comments are quickly handled on all the public boards. On the group (private) boards, there are still moderators who can address rude and/or offensive posts, but there are also some who clearly label themselves as being specifically for very blunt and/or inflammatory discussions. Those groups are easy to avoid if one is offended by such posts. IMO Ravelry has the least amount of snark of any grown-up site I've visited. Questions on the public forums in particular are almost always answered with friendly enthusiasm from multiple sources. I cannot think of a single time I've seen a simple question treated as stupid or mocked by more experienced knitters/crocheters. For those who still find offense from going there need to either grow a thicker skin or stay off the internet.
