I am the owner of this web site. This is the sister site of HostsFile.org. If you use the automated download scripts I provide (they need UnixUtils installed to use them) they toggle back and forth between the two web sites for load balancing. I was actually using the mechanism that achieves this to communicate with hackers last summer (2009-08).. The web site contains a blocking hosts list. More importantly, it has a PAC filter that blocks unknown threats. For example, if you get an email message that says it goes to ***** but really goes to wellsfargo.com.badboy.co,uk or anything like it the PAC filter springs into action and blocks it without even knowing the host name. Basically, it is restricting you to only going to *.wellsfargo.com hosts. If you don't like that, delete the rules. Similarly, all KoobFace infested web servers are stopped by just one rule (for now - how could the KF hackers be so sloppy?): BadURL_WordStarts[i++] = "\.sys"; hpHosts and a guy named Rodney (alias DomainAnalysis) are working on making a simpler version of the PAC filter (with my blessing and encouragement - it is GNU licensed). When you realize that the PAC filter can block 2,000+ host names in a DNSWCD (DNS WildCard Domain) with just one rule as opposed to 2000+ lines in a hosts file you can see the value in the project. I do even better than that. I reach right down into the guts and can actually prevent AdBlockPlus EasyPrivacy from even seeing some tracker host names. In fact I am identifying the rules to the other black-listers because they have to comment them out to get the hosts to show up. Because ***** is hosted at Yahoo it does have a spy line tacked onto the end of the html files as they go out the door. I didn't ask for it and I don't want it. I had to add a (I work from Linux and BSD) line in my compare scripts to chop of f the last line from the file I pull down from the web server to make sure it matches exactly what I ostensibly just uploaded. The hosts used by Yahoo right now for tracking are (both are in that last line Yahoo tacks on): ***** ***** I block the first which is a tracking image. I do not block the second tracker. It makes using Yahoo email problematical. It makes using the Yahoo web hosting services impossible! I do not use what ever information it gathers. If you use the PAC filter on MS Windows YOU MUST BE A WINDOWS GURU! I am much more than that. I am somebody who can write thousands of lines of debugged C code per day. I have worked on Unix systems since the late 1970s. I analyze Trojans with Unix strings commands and hexedit (ghex2 on OpenSUSE) to save time. No copyright string in the binary? You did a flash scan of my system and said my C: drive has 123 trojans? YOU ARE BAD (and included in my block list)! Linux systems have everything hanging off of "/". There are no drive letters. I do have a mini-blog that explains where I am going: ***** If you put the PAC filter on and have problems, by all means email me. But please don't tell me you have to format your hard drive to get rid of it if you use IE.! Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, uncheck Proxy server.
