Ethical issues
Here are the ethical issues:
1. The website has links almost everywhere to download the Spycheck AntiSpyware, but there are no links available to read the software license before installing it. How can a user know if the software is free or not, BEFORE downloading and installing it?
2. The website says "Click here for a free analysis tool "spycheck". It is not a free analysis tool. The software starts with a License Status of "0 Days to Expire License". You have to click on a "Get or Renew License" button. The license costs 1.5€ Euros for 1 month, 5€ Euros for 6 months, and 9€ Euros for 12 months. That is not free.
3. If you click the Activate button without writing the License Code, an error message will appear. Within the text, it reads: "If the license expired, you cannot remove threats". So that means the software does not work unless you buy a license. That is still not free.
4. The software vendor lures you into installing a "free analysis tool" just to make sure that when you need to use it to remove threats, you must pay for a license to do so. That seems like a scam.
5. Suspicious installation methods are used. Instead of installing in the Program Files directory, the software installs inside the My Documents directory. That is not a standard procedure for a program installation.
6. No matter what threat it finds, when you want more information about it, the software will open your browser to a threat report that has generic information about it. The Spyware Check reads: "To determine whether this is a real threat or not, to undertake a review with the tool of detection." The link is for a download of the software. The Recommendation reads: "Deactivate and eliminate Immediately. This process is identified as a virus or trojan." Again, another link appears for the download. In the website's threat report, all links point to the download. This seems to me as if the vendor is trying to push the average user to install the software. "
