Am in process of installing Linux. Ubuntu recommends a free open source image burning program called "Infra Recorder" and provides a link to download the software. When you click on the link it takes you to ***** Unfortunately, I did not look closely enough at the screen and clicked on the first link I saw that read "Download InfraRecorder". What I did not notice is that that particular link was part of a Google ad. The link took me to http://files.uberdownloads.com. After the download I started to install the file. All the license and privacy agreements made me suspicious. I became even more suspicious when it gave the option to install a Yahoo toolbar. That is when I retraced my steps to see how I ended up at "uberdownloads". I realized that I could have downloaded Infra Recorder directly from ***** if I had looked more closely. The worst part is that when I tried to delete the .exe file I had downloaded from uberdownloads a window kept popping up asking me to enter a password for various bmp files, such as "quadregistrycleaner.bmp". I had to click on "Cancel" about 100 times - no exaggeration - before I could delete the file. Stay away from Uberdownloads!!!!

I finally made my way through the scams, built in spyware/tracking programs disguised as part of the EULA for the intended program, to a nice program a young developer is working on. I think he would have much better success at a more reputable freeware site.

Hosts numerous known rogue products such as: Kazaa Xp Antivirus ***** Antivirus 360 Antivermins Windows Antivirus System Antivirus THE Spybot CoolWebSearch (as a trojan in certain packages!) (other nasties I can't remember)

All the software offered as well as the browser options are OPTIONAL. They are also ALL approved in the TRUSTe Trusted Download program and are run through our stringent quality control program. All software can be easily removed through your Control Panel, Add or Remove Software.

Users complain of spam. They also use fake installers that download malware, spyware and change your default settings. This site is no better than any other rouge site.

I downloaded 7 zip from here, an email was requested and I have received 20 times the usual amount of spam beginning within 5 minutes of the download. I am very careful about download sites and giving my email address, so it had to come from here.
12
I detected adware!! Be careful when using this site, its not very trustworthy/reliable/or private.
