Is us.etrade.com Safe?

These people will fight you every step of the way behind your back and then, without warning, stab you in the back. All wars are started by the lack of communication and these people are the kings of that. Use ANY other brokerage. You have been warned. Google, "eTrade thieves" And then Google "Other_Broker thieves" and notice the difference.

The website itself provides a great trading platform, however E*TRADE used their "we may close your account without notice or reason" clause in their terms of service agreement on my multiple accounts and have held my money hostage for over a fiscal quarter while providing excuses and providing me with automated calls and emails about the status of my accounts on a bi-weekly basis. They have given me excuses over and over again as to why I have not received a disbursement of my funds from my accounts, and I would not recommend trusting them with your money if you do not have a perfect history with banks and credit or cannot fund your account with plenty of cash. If you fall into any of the aforementioned categories, I would probably recommend going with another broker from the start to prevent yourself lots of potential headaches.

Etrade makes international trading easy. If you like WMMVF and WMMVY ("WalMex -- Mexican & South-American Walmart) you save paying a "foreign stock" fee as you would at Fidelity or Schwab when you buy the underlying stock that costs about 2.80 per share. You still have to pay the ADR fee if you buy the version that is an ADR (ADR version costs ten times are much as the underlying stock since each share represents 10 shares of the underlying stock). Also, you can open a "Global Trading" account that lets you trade on a number of foreign exchanges giving you an inexpensive way to access many foreign stocks. You do have to pay currency exchange fees unless you deposit foreign currency associated with the particular foreign exchange into the account. Thus, you can take $10,000 of Canadian currency you have in a Canadian bank and deposit it to your Global Trading account for use in Canada and avoid money changing fees.
