This site cannot really be called safe. Family data you enter becomes their property, which other people can then add to or alter. Details of your ancestors' lives get falsified, which some may find distressing. If you are happy to accept that risk and to make your family history public on the web, you personally can come under attack by other members or, worse still, the administrators. This secretive group have absolute power, which they use to impose their chosen rules and to expel any dissidents. If you think that sounds like Solzhenitsyn's account of the Soviet Union, you are right.

They locked me out of my account after I made almost 600 contributions to the website including personal photos which are still on public display. They have personal information on me and my living family that I no longer have "approved" access to, to remove and they won't remove it. I've asked them to and they just ignore my emails. They claim on their website under privacy that they will remove the content that you post and not leave it on their website, if asked to do so. That's a lie. They've locked my profile but all of my information is still there for "trusted administrators" to look at and use. They have all of the information that my bank asks me for when determining my identity like my mothers maiden name, my birth date, email addresses, etc. This site should be closed down. There is nothing stopping them from selling my identity and family tree onto a third party. I'M CALLING MAJOR FRAUD ON THIS ONE.

The content is completely suitable for children. Any content regarding living people is either protected or removed if requested.

This is a good site. It is a WIKI !!! The site should not be judged on the content provided by the general public. They should only be judged on how they address the problems that do occasionally occur because a few humans don't follow they rules.

Found my family's and siblings family's' detailed personal information public on this site. Living persons' information was not automatically made private and I had to contact the original poster of the information to remove our information.

I don't understand why this site is so poorly rated. There is no threat to children, privacy is OK , Reliability and Trustworthiness are great. Doug Schneider
