Is www.freenew.net Safe?

In 2010 I used this site to truly find a number of programs. That was then. It soon became clear that the owner was writing most of the reviews. It was blatant. Then when seeing the volume of complaints about adware it was too much. Also combine in the fact that they carry software from known troublemakers like IObit. What more could be wrong with a download site? I thought that I had already rated it. It was due for a well-earned red.

According to Websense ThreatSeeker this page contains Malicious content. Possible that it's just Spyware or adware. There is software on this site which does not exist in reality and as my previous speaker said it wants to trick you to download a "windows error check tool".

I agree with Phil Goddard & others about installing PUP & other spyware that I certainly did not want & although I stopped install I still got hammered with some of the garbage stuff. Malwarebytes found a PUP program (Potentially Unwanted Program) & of course the browser plugins left behind & installed even though I had stopped the install - I thought. Bad, Bad, Bad downloader installer. Stay away from here!!!

A BAD site that has NO business to have a positive rating! I just sought to download a perfectly legitimate and reputable clock utility from that site, and was suspicious from the start because what was being offered for download was not the utility itself initially but a downloader program that was supposed to then download the utility. That downloader offered to download some crapware program, which I unchecked, but then it proceeded to start downloading some computer scanning crapware nonetheless. I terminated the download about halfway through, but then WinPatrol informed me of what I found was a spyware plug-in (iseekdeal.dll) that had already been installed in Internet Explorer, and which I then removed with good old Anvir Task Manager as for some reason WinPatrol was unable to do so. Later I found that a corresponding plugin had been installed in Firefox, claiming to be a Firefox security plugin, which it most certainly was not. So, I'll keep clear of this site in future and recommend that others do so too for their own computers' well-being.
