WOT to hit 20 million downloads
Wed 20 Apr 2011 09:40:26 AM UTC — annaleenaOur WOT safe surfing tool was released in September 2006, reached 10 million downloads a year ago in March 2010 and soon we are about to reach yet another milestone – 20 million downloads!
The historical 20 millionth download is assumed to happen during the Easter holiday. As the WOT office will be closed, we won’t be celebrating with sparkling wine, streamers and a huge counter on the wall. Instead we want to share the moment with you all dedicated community members. Here's the counter: Wherever you are when the counter hits the round number, please join the feeling of celebration!
Thank you for downloading WOT and rating websites actively. Together we boost trust on the web and make it safer for all users!

20 million is GREAT, though remember you have MUCH WORK ahead to compete with the mega-corporations that are attempting to take this market from you. Keep up the good fight!!

Well done WOT, this is an amazing achievement. Glad to be able to watch the counter tick over, with all the new members!
Before WOT im not sure how I surfed the web, and with the new social media extensions are working well. I can see a quick trip to the 30,000,000th user in no time.

That's what I urged for , back in December it looks over the top

I think its funny how it has 20 mill. downloads but none of my friends or teachers have even heard of the name. They keep thinking I'm saying "watt."

At this rate, I would estimate the downloads to reach 28 million by the end of the year.
200,000 a week x 5 = 1,000,000 a month...
1,000,000 a month x 8 months left = 8,000,000...
8 mill + 20 mill = 28 mill

I love WOT too, but I have two questions. Is there any way to contact someone when you think there could be an 'emergency' situation regarding a rating? For instance, a site has a top rating but you know it's a dangerous site. Maybe it was safe when the first ratings came in, but now it links to MANY red sites. Not only that, when you try to close out the page according to the WOT red alert, you get a dialogue box asking if you're SURE you want to leave the site? Of course it's complete with an 'OK' button. Generally if you click 'OK' you are actually Okaying' a malicious download. I always close out the browser entirely with the ctr/alt/del command when this happens, but not everyone realizes how dangerous clicking on that button could be. At any rate, I DID rate this site red and left a comment, but it's obviously not enough for one person to get the entire site marked red. Is there an answer to this problem?
My second question is much more frivolous. HOW did Javelina get the coloured 'WOT' logo to appear in her comment? Is it a 'copy/paste' function or can we do this using HTML? It's just cool.

That is an obnoxious but non-harmful JavaScript Alert/Confirm it does not "download" anything. If a site contains Malware you will either be prompted to download a file or the injection occurs when you first enter the site.

Back to my first question: If there is no 'emergency contact' link to report things like this, there SHOULD be so that someone that works for WOT can take a look at the site in person and then over-ride the green rating.
