Not a big fan but use sometimes I think privacy issues are a problem, use your settings wisely.

Unless you are fully aware of all the privacy settings which are "public" by default, it's not that safe.

Facebook makes no effort to protect the privacy of its users - any user's security is only as strong as the weakest "friends list" member. In other words, if you have a "friend" that has a public profile, then your info is basically at risk of being public also.
A monumental wast of time for humanity. Pick up the phone or send an email to stay in touch. Easier and safer.
