It is time for a total rewrite as this site continues to be a conundrum. Positives: It has a lot of quick reads on science generally explained without excessive geekspeak. It does a better job than most of identifying sponsored content. Many competitors ethics regarding this stink. Strikes against it: It has (at last count) 24 trackers and ads attempting to run in the background. EDIT: Correct that. If you block Servebom that number drops in half. Heaven help those who don't run things like NoScript and Request Policy. As far as the HPHosts report above the truth is anybody running dangerous browsers like stinky Internet Explorer are just plain committing high-tech suicide. It used to be much slower- plus if all the garbage loads too expect that to weigh it down even more.

After the secession the only way for the US Government to collect the tax was invade the southern states and take property by force. Lincoln declared war on the south, not the other way around. Six percent of the south owned slaves prior to the start of hostilities; Seven percent of the north owned slaves and three northern states were completely against the war. The northern industrialists wanted cheap cotton for themselves instead of seeing the southern planters making a profit by selling overseas.
