BetterNet is a subdivision of VPN in Touch. The privacy policy states the following: "We do not log any user activity (sites visited, DNS lookups, emails etc.). We only log access attempts to our servers (for security and troubleshooting), session durations, bandwidth used and user clicks made to our software (for features popularity tracking and improvements). We do not get involved in any form of censorship. We do not give your personal info to any third parties. We do not cooperate with any requests for information unless we are ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction and the vast majority of these requests would not be from a court of competent jurisdiction. We will protect you to the max and our system is setup to automatically do so. There are hundreds of good reasons for being anonymous and we respect them fully." The Privacy Policy doesn't sound too bad, does it? That's because the privacy policy is not the source of the VPN's privacy issues. The servers themselves are the source. The free BetterNet VPN for iPad sometimes connects to a server located in the UK that is powered by uk2.net, which has poor community reviews and is allegedly engaged in SSH intrusions and the hosting of malware and spam. The VPN also sometimes connects to a server hosted by Westhost, which was under fire for sending logs to Homeland Security, and possibly other spying agencies. The Chrome VPN is also guilty of similar privacy issues. If I were you, I would visit dnsleaktest.com, whatismyipaddress.com, and ***** to verify the IP and the domain linked to the server you're connected to, then do a background check. If the domain is insecure, try reconnecting until you're connected to a secure server. Free doesn't come without a cost!
