Is checkpeople.com Safe?

Signed up for 5-day trial (ostensibly for $1 USD) and was charged immediately for a month ($29.15 USD). Searched for a cancellation option on the website, there wasn't one. Called the toll free number on the homepage and spoke to a representative. Immediately told the rep that I wanted to cancel, she then proceeded to attempt to sell me longer-term lower-priced service repeatedly. Finally she acquiesced and cancelled. The 29.15 USD charge then appeared to be reversed (probably just an authorization) immediately. Quite untrustworthy website with several borderline fraudulent practices.

Advertises free lookup. Charges you to see the results. Bait and switch. Also, it has annoying loading bars for everything. The fact that they count down to exact seconds tells me that they're not really waiting on a search which would have a variable speed. It's just to make you feel invested in getting info through their site once you see that they're going to charge you.

Advertised as a free people check site. When they say they have your info there is a charge. Then they say $1.00 for a 5 day trial. If you haven't cancelled within 5 days you a charged a hefty fee for 1 month. Very deceptive. 95 BBB complaints in the last 12 months. 111 complaints on another consumer site
