I've recently discovered this apparently presitgious and influential author/professor and debunker of pseudoscience whose mission is to reportedly educate the public (the non-skeptics among us) and to clarify what truly defines science vs. fruadulent claims, quackery, etc. (as in his latest book, "Is that a Fact?") It's not the site per se that I don't trust (and I've never listened to his radio program), and I agree that he has much to offer an often quite-gullible public, but after reading his blog, "The Fat Conundrum," for example, I find that although he admits that saturated fats "have not been [linked] to heart disease...", he goes on to add, "...there is plenty of evidence that replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturaded ones leads to lower cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular diseases...", he violates his own strict advice concerning proper scientific studies, research, etc., by not backing up this "plenty of evidence" claim. I am a layperson but have read just about every book out there by highly respected authors, scientists, etc., particularly those who are strong advocates of the Paleo lifestyle (as am I) who offer strong support AGAINST his claim concerning polyunsaturated fats and their relationship to heart disease. In fact, he makes no mention nor does he back up the myths concerning the "evil" cholesterol, the "dangers" of which most of us have been duped into believing for many years. The good doctor should follow his own advice and conduct a proper scientific study to prove his assertions. I am only a few chapters into this latest book and now struggle with whether I should finish it. I'm just not one for hypocrisy. So, okay, yes, the site itself is "safe," and therefore ok for kids should any kid be so inclined. The site is not dangerous, but some of his unsubstantiated claims (regardless of his prestigious standing) just might be. Trite, but I'm thinking, "Hey doc, practice what you preach."
