Is coolrom.com Safe?

It's definitely safe on android as all you have to do is click the download button and it downloads the game/zip file.But on a Computer you just need to click the alt link so I wouldn't say its 100% safe.But yeah great on android,for PC find a different site.

If you want a legit site for downloading ROMs, go to Emuparadise or Romulation (if searching for Wii ROMS). This site will often install programs without knowledge: I have once downloaded Sonic 1 and it installed "CoolROM Downloader" without my knowledge then changed my main page into "CoolROM safefinder," which fills up my entire cache and had to restore Firefox to it's original state in order to get rid of it. The FAQ clearly says "Our downloader is an executable program that makes your download process much faster (by directly downloading the file and accelerating download speed) and ensures the file is virus-free," but in reality it in fact installs viruses on the computer, and the only way to download it without the downloader is the alternate download with ads and file timing. The alternate download is also the download before they replaced it with the scammy downloader, with extra ads and file timing. It is not recommended for classic console fans, however, forgetting the irritating download, the quality of the ROMs is very good.

After the death of loveroms, emuparadise, and The Iso Zone, one might be tempted to turn to coolrom as it seems to be the ONLY Rom site that doesn't enforce BS practices and hasn't been annihilated by Cease & Desists/Fear of C&Ds yet. Not so fast, bucko. CoolROM does deliver, but if you aren't careful, you could reaaaaaaaaaally mess things up. According to a friend, it's safe on mobile, but god help your poor soul if you don't click that alternative download link on PC. The 'CoolROM Downloader' is notorious in the ROM community for being a sack of bloatware that installs malware and PUPs even after you've told it not to. The fact that this site leads to some... fishy material if you're not lucky enough to have a pop-up/adblocker on hand also doesn't help matters. If you want to use CoolROM, cool, but only if you really need to. It's clear that money has gotten in the way of ethics when it comes to the people who run the site. I can't blame them for that, as running a site is costly and the invention of adblockers has made people desperate for anything that'll hand 'em a little cash. It's just a little annoying to deal with, is my point.

I have download a ROM, at first you need to download a Downloader, no Problem so far, but immidiately after i opend that Downloader for the ROM, my Bullguard Anti-Virus blocked a Trojaner "Tiluno.exe" from within the downloader! So yeah, this Site definitely NOT safe!!! never again

Every time you download a rom, iso, anything from that website, you need to use the alternative download link shown below the main download link. The alternative link will download the game directly instead of using Coolrom's launcher, which is known for malware. The site is safe other than the main download.

Used this website for the first time. Got a nasty virus, an evil browser hijacker called "Filter Results" and 149 other adware/malware items. Definitely ***** responsible because I hadn't visited any other websites. On installing ROMS I declined every offer to install other software that came up but it still put adware/malware on my computer regardless. I'm certainly going to steer clear of it from now on. Plenty of other safer ROM websites out there.

DO NOT USE THEIR INSTALLER TO DOWNLOAD. It will give you PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) that infect your browser and do things such as showing ads, popups, and other garbage on every page that you visit... *even* if you *decline* every one of their offers. This practice is just unacceptable. ***They install unwanted programs on your computer without asking for your permission first.*** This is enough to make me stop trusting this site, go to EmuParadise instead which does not force you to jump through hoops and invade your privacy like this.

Update: ***** hasn't been safe for almost 2 years since the takeover. For those attempting to utilize this sites offerings, look towards a new location for downloads. Or badly risk the health of your PC as a result. This is still relevant as of *****

Their installer says it " makes sure there is no malware" when in reality it will flood your computer with adware. There is an alternate download link, but I think crappy sites like this shouldn't get any visits. Also, they were raided my Nintendo, so they're useless for Nintendo ROMs.
