This website is not a legitimate source of any kind--and makes no actual attempt to be one. It is also not a scam or a hoax. As stated in the press kit, Tom Way originally created this website as vent art over how the media LOVES to stretch or outright rewrite the truth, either to fit their agenda or to rake in views and clicks from gullible audiences. Its main purpose is now to serve as an example of exactly WHAT to watch out for when browsing the internet or listening to sensationalist media. The main lesson that this website is trying to teach you is NOT that dihydrogen monoxide [read: water] must be banned at all costs--rather, it's that hey, maybe you shouldn't believe everything that you read on the Internet. To quote what Way said in an interview: "Leaving out just one detail can alter the perception someone gets from all this information floating out there. Truth can be used to lie." P.S. If you're going to give this a 1-star "this is a scam/hoax website" review, then congrats--you just got r/woooosh'd.

First off, this site is completely safe. Now, the entire site is a hoax, so don't believe a word on here. However, the hoax itself is not the actual subject of the site. The entire purpose of this site is to show that you need to be careful of what you are told, and that you should research anything that somebody tells you for yourself before you just believe it. I think we can all learn from here.

This is a parody website about DHMO (dihydrogen monoxide), which is water. Mostly harmless.

I'm giving this a good review because this website doesn't have viruses or anything (it's safe). I know Dihydrogen Monoxide is a hoax, but then again, this website isn't a security risk.

This is a joke, don't take it too seriously. All they say is actually true, but they say it in a way that could make people think water is dangerous :)

DH-MO DH = Dihydrogen = 2H. MO = Monoxide = O. Combine them, you'll make H2O (water). DHMO is bad. DHMO is water. Therefore, water is BAD. A website that only mention all the downsides of water.

A hoax. It's water. REALLY PEOPLE.

Keep full blown website describing water in idiotic terms do show the scamming nature of its creators. As not enough a trash around, web including...

Keep in mind, this site is a PARODY. This is a good site to teach critical thinking and how to actually evaluate claims that are often made by people who are ignorant of basic science. Be careful showing this site to republicans and religious people, they probably wouldn't get the parody. ;)

Stop scaring people about WATER! What sort of insanity is it when people actually try to scare people about water??? That's what Dihidrogen Monoxide is - H2O.

It's actually really funny to see so many people convinced that water will destroy our environment or something, and extremely entertaining to see people not know that DHMO is actually water.

If you need an explanation, don't bother.

DHMO is water... these types of pages don't directly harm anyone... but this is not a reliable source

Satirical site.
3
Satirical hoax which exposes how easily people will panic about things without knowing much about it.

Banning for water, LOL.

As much as I like a good prank, I just can't possibly rate this website as a good website. Sure, it won't infect your computer, but the good WOT rating scares me even more than the content of the site. Even after reading the below comment asking for a good rating, I have to decline. *****

Good stuff. Be careful, though. The stuff they warn you of is FOUND IN ACID RAIN!

It is not a hoax, it is a parody
