Acording to the report below, D-Link sold millions of modem and router devices with an included backdoor that made intrusions possible from anywhere in the world. As it can be read in the report, it doesn't require a vast technical knowledge to accomplish the intrusion into the device's admin interface, making it possible to even intercept the user's data, spying into the user's habits, comunications, e-mails, credit card numbers etc.
