Owned by Akamai Technologies (http://www.akamai.com/), which itself has a good reputation (https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/akamai.com), although that doesn't necessarily mean that edgekey.net is good too.

Always suspicious of external sites required to log in to or use websites you need to use. Why do you *have* to visit another domain, why not a sub-domain of where you want to go. Who is collecting what information and WHY?
