Basically an extension of the Greens and Labor, masquerading as an independent movement. Don't trust them.

GetUp! is a website dedicated to activism. It often makes excessive and exaggerated claims in order to gain signatures for its petitions. For example, its petition to 'Save the ABC!' (https://www.getup.org.au/campaigns/media/save-the-abc--2/save-the-abc) claims that "many members of the Liberal party" have been "vocally criticising the ABC and pushing to defund and commercialise" it. This is not directly attributed to any senior Liberal politician. It perhaps references comments made by Senator Bernardi in a television interview in December 2013, as well as a motion moved by the Victorian branch of the party prior to the September election. However, the Minister for Communications promised pre-election that ''There are no plans to privatise the ABC or even review privatising the ABC.'' (http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/state-liberals-propose-privatising-abc-sbs-20130521-2jz5d.html#ixzz2nG1sGimU) (echoed by Tony Abbott). This was repeated post-election with the ABC reporting that "Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said that he has no plans to change the way the ABC operates"(http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/breakfast/cory-bernardi-calls-to-wind-back-the-abcs-online-presence/5133174). GetUp!'s attempt to use the comments of one Senator, while ignoring the comments of the two most senior ministers with regard to the ABC seems to highlight a broader proclivity of the website to make misleading claims in order to motivate misguided people to sign petitions based in fantasy.

GetUp is an independent, grass-roots community advocacy organisation giving everyday Australians opportunities to get involved and hold politicians accountable on important issues

My favorite part of the site is the petition to end marriage discrimination.

Tells all Australians about the bad changes the government is putting forward and lets you protest.
