Is hindawi.com Safe?

I appreciate for its open access model, making scientific research accessible to all. It hosts a wide range of peer-reviewed journals across various disciplines with a straightforward submission process and rigorous peer review. However, the publication fees can be high.

I haven't had a spam problem with hindawi. It has a poor reputation (e.g. for overcharging academic authors for publishing their open access articles) although they have made an effort to clean up their business practices. Unclear how successful that has been! I don't know why mywot gives it a 4.4 on community reviews as every one of them is 3.5 or below.

No reputable academic publisher would spam staff at a university. ***** , icnf2014.com, icnf2015.com, ***** has been firewalled for repeat spamming, so to be associated with them in the same spam does not bode well. NEVER trust a spammer NEVER buy from spammers (high fraud risks) NEVER visit spammed web sites (high malware risks)

The invitations to submit to this publisher's journal that I've received get classified as spam in my organization (sent via relay and RCVD blacklisted on two lists). Spamming behaviour is not a good thing, I'm personally mildly dubious from an online user perspective. From an academic point of view, though, the peer review system of Hindawi Publishing Corporation (hindawi.com) seems to currently (early 2014) be rated as basically scientific according to our national publication forum rating site (tsv.fi/julkaisufoorumi), as did the journal listed in the mail. So I wouldn't sign it off as a direct scam.
