Is macupdate.com Safe?

I see a couple of people have had a negative experience on the site, personally I've had a positive experience on the site, but I've never provided my credit card details or my email address. If your looking for free software for the MAC, this site has a large collection. I've tried quite a few software on offer and never had a problem and software has been virus free.

Be very cautious purchasing a product from this company! I purchased an application bundle from them in March and six-months later they used my credit card information without my consent to auto-enroll me in their paid membership service of $20 per year. Presumably hoping that after this length of time I would not notice this charge. They have some good deals and all that, but if you have ever bought anything from them, check your account preferences. On the right hand bar there will be a slider that indicates whether you would like them to use your credit card to "auto-renew" your membership, it defaults to ON. I gave them a decent rating on all counts except for Trustworthiness, for which they get a 0. I expect that my credit card information is only used by reputable companies to purchase products and services with my specific consent. I find this action by them underhanded and disingenuous.

Good Mac software download site. One or two programs listed had trojans in them, but once the site admins were notified the programs were removed. Don't bother buying MacScan or Intego, they are shams. You don't need pay for a duplicate firewall and a full AV scanner for the 2 pieces of malware that exist for the Mac.

This website has a download to Mac Sweeper, one of the first Mac rouge programs. This program scans your computer and gives you false reports about programs that are bad for your computer and need to be removed (even the programs that come installed with your Mac before you buy it).
