This is a good site. The people who think it's about Scientology need to learn how to read, because this doesn't have anything to do with Scientology. Not that I would have a problem with that because I believe anyone can believe in whatever spiritual beliefs they want. I just wanted to point out that this site doesn't base it's information on scientology.
Helpful
I rated this site somewhat the opposite of what it was rated before regarding "customer experience" because it is self-supporting through only membership dues and selling literature on alternative viewpoints from mainstream psychiatry.
2
To make clear, rating this site as untrustworthy or a bad customer experience, despite their controversial opinions on mental health and illness, is completely unwarranted. I have dealt with them for years, and have been on their mailing lists, and never had a bad experience.
2
I have been a member of MFI for years, and I can vouch for their reliability. They have no connection to the Scientologists.
2
Not anti-psychiatry, but pro-choice in mental health. Lots of good information. Great site. Ignore the scientology accusations - anyone who doesn't think psychiatrists should rule the world like kings these days gets accused of being a "scientologist".
1
Mindfreedom is not a science fiction cult. I found support for a wide range of choices for consumers of mental health care.
2
This is NOT a Scientology website. MindFreedom International is an outstanding organization providing impartial, independent analysis and human rights advocacy. When are people going to realize that the vast majority of psychiatry's critics are not affiliated in any way with Scientology? Visit the site and see for yourself the good work done by MindFreedom.
2
Mindfreedom International is a fully independent organization which has no connection or affiliation with Scientology. The false claim made below by "Doc Ron" that MindFreedom functions as a "front group" for Scientology is misinformed at best. Not only is MindFreedom independent of Scientology, the group is independent of all governments, corporations and other religious groups. This makes MindFreedom's website an unusually valuable resource as visitors know they are not being fed information that serves the interests of, for example, sponsors from the pharmaceutical industry. It would be a shame if people were discouraged from visiting MindFreedom's extensive, useful, and fiercely independent website due to the false accusations made below!

The libelous statements written about MindFreedom being connected to Scientology are written by people who do not have any idea what they are talking about. Perhaps they are conflating MindFreedom's agenda (increasing and advocating for human rights in the mental health system) with the Scientology-affiliated group CCHR (Citizen's Commission for Human Rights which is vehemently anti-medication). MindFreedom is not in ANY way affiliated with CCHR! Moreover, MFI (MindFreedom International) is a non-judgmental organization, which doesn't espouse beliefs about medication. In fact many MFI members are on medication. MFI just tries to shed light on some of the more inhumane treatments for the mentally ill, like forced electroshock for anyone or forced medication for non-violent people. Also MFI tries to support alternative mental health resources, which many people do not even know about, they just assume medication is the best answer. I understand Germans are especially anti-Scientology, and I'm no fan of it myself, but coloring a group bad that is in no way affiliated with the Scientology brush is not a good way to discredit Scientology, it just makes you look as crazy as they are.

I direct MindFreedom International. An anonymous individual identifying himself as "Doc Ron" falsely claimed our organization is "affiliated directly" with Scientology. As we say in our "Frequently Asked Questions" on our web site, this is FALSE. MindFreedom International has zero connections or affiliations with Scientology, or their sponsored organization Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR). This is not to criticize any other group, it is simply the truth. MindFreedom International is actually one of the few totally INDEPENDENT mental health advocacy groups in the world, with an affiliation policy modeled after Amnesty International: We have ZERO funding from any corporation, government, or religion. Note: Most other mental health advocacy groups -- whether good or bad -- have funding from the mental health industry or government. The pseudonym "Doc Ron" in fact implies the rumor-creator is in the health industry (are you?). Health industry affiliation doesn't automatically discredit anyone, but my point is, MindFreedom International is actually MORE independent than most groups and many individuals in our mental health field! You know, I had relatives in the 1950's who were targeted by the "Red Scare." I'm concerned that "Mywot" may be a good idea... but in practice a few people with Internet access and prejudice, can tar and feather really good efforts. Disagree with our perspective, but know that our attorney David Atkin, would like to know of any individual who knowingly attempts to harm leaders of MindFreedom International with false, harmful statements. A PDF of Mr. Atkin's letter is on our web site. Anyone has questions? I am NOT anonymous. I'm David Oaks, director, MindFreedom International, use Google to find us, and give us a call. This is my 34th year working as a human rights activist... It's sad when a tool like the Internet is used to spread false hoaxes. Thanks.

Affiliated directly with Scientology as one of their front groups. WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

This is NOT a Scientology site. It has however linked to one of Scientology's front groups, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, as one of many groups claiming to be anti-psychiatry. The CCHR is a dangerous organization, part of the Scientology cult, but MindFreedom is neither a cult nor affiliated with one. CCHR are not listed as affiliates or sponsors of MindFreedom as you can see on this list: http://www.mindfreedom.org/as/mfi-sponsor-affiliate-public-list And here's the letter by the attorney of MindFreedom stating that they are not in any way connected with Scientology: http://www.mindfreedom.org/mfi-faq/MFI-atkin.pdf MindFreedom is an important organization advocating for the rights of people abused by psychiatrists. Scientology is not anti-psychiatry. Its founder L. Ron Hubbard in fact stated the very year that the CCHR was founded, that the goal is: "To take over absolutely the field of mental healing on this planet in all forms. ... Our total victory will come when we run [the psychiatrist's] organisations, perform his functions and obtain his financing and appropriations." That memo can be seen in full here: *****

___ probably belongst to scientology or at least supports them in citing and beeing cited. This let them appear to be legal ! Beware! Dangerous cult! They are under observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in germany. If you were caught they won´t let you go.Members have been convicted very often because of using illegal methods. They decline the constitutional state. DANGEROUS! ***** ***** ***** *****
1
Definitely NOT scientology--one of the most highly respected sites in the world for people who identify as survivors or ex-patients of psychiatry.
3
I'd like to see some citations that show that this site was funded by Scientologists. In my oppinion, scientologists are nutty, but I haven't seen any substantial link, and they at least claim to be any independent organization.

Wollte man wirklich eine Million Dollar verdienen, so wäre der beste Weg, seine eigene Religion zu gründen“ ___ Scientology is an organisation with the aim to make money. Founded by L. Ron Hubbard who has commited among others theft and kidnapping. Quote: “The only reason orgs exists is TO SELL AND DELIVER MATERIALS AND SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC AND GET IN PUBLIC TO SELL AND DELIVER TO.” “MAKE MONEY. MAKE MORE MONEY. MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE SO AS TO MAKE MONEY” For this they make use of besides wealthy and influential people also of people with drug problems, mental or other problems. Quote: “Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion.”

Jim Gottstein is NOT a Scientologist, you fools!

This is an excellent site.

This is a very important advocacy site for anyone who has been thrown into a mental hospital, or drugged, or electroshocked, against their will, or otherwise abused by psychiatrists. I've never been spammed, scammed, or have come across otherwise untrustworthy behavior on this site. It's low rating here appears to be another example of people using WOT to rate sites according to their political believes, rather than based on any real problems with the site. I'd like to see some actual comments explaining the poor rating.
