These guys are handling a majority of post-breach credit monitoring services for many companies (Target, Group Health, etc). As this is the service that is given free of charge, it's certainly trustworthy enough. HOWEVER... they do state that they use persistent cookies, and that they ignore do not track requests. " ConsumerInfo.com, Inc., which operates websites such as ... ***** ... may share information about you and other customers collectively, but not specifically identifiable to you with our parent company, our affiliated companies, and with third parties. This information includes: •Demographic information (gender, estimated age, and general geographic location, and your estimated purchase ability); •Summarized census information and other publicly available information (estimated education level, homeownership status, and estimated occupation type); and •Your inferred and expressed interests, including transactional information and product interests we derive from your visits to some of the sites listed above. This information that we share includes information that we have collected, together with data from Experian Marketing Services, one of the members of the Experian family of companies. "

Site for the credit record check and track.

Directed from Target's website, etc.

this site has been offered to me free for a year by Target for credit monitoring. It is owned by Experian, sponsored as I said by Target, and is therefore a great site. I can not understand and do not agree with its current yellow rating. Should be green all the way.

Site was discussed in an AARP publication as a way to keep track of credit reports and security breaches to your personal information. Info was a bit misleading because after signing up on this website, you were offered additional services for a fee. That was not mentioned in the AARP article that I can remember or at least wasn't emphasized. It's an "OK" site to monitor very basic level credit info, like if you are applying for a loan, it will send you a notice that such and such company has requested your credit info. Nothing earth shattering unless you pay.

Experian Credit Reporting site for monitoring attempts to falsely use or access your credit information. Children should not have access to your detailed personal credit info, so it is unsuitable for them.

This is a legitimate site. ***** is associated with Experian, one of the three major credit reporting agencies (i.e., Equifax, Experian, Trans Union). If you have a AAA membership, the basic service is free for a year. Of coarse, they will offer their upgraded service for a fee, and they will try to get you to renew for a fee at the end of the year. I simply reapplied with my AAA membership at the end of my one year and it continues to be free. I like it because it will notify me of any suspicious activity having to do with my credit without having to pay $110 to $275 a year. Our system is a broken one if individuals have to pay extra money to protect their own credit and identity. Our government should do the job they were appointed to do and stop wasting time and money.

Since this is my first attempt to go to this site, I can't say much yet. It is run by Experian, so I would think it should be OK. On the other hand, other persons have raised the legitimate concern of the site connecting by port 80 rather than port 443 (https). Many sites switch to https: for actual transactions (for example, amazon.com). (Later) Note that they do switch to port 443.

Recommended by the South Carolina Dept of Revenue following a breach of tax records. Would assume there was some professional research prior to selection.

As a grateful customer of ProtectmyID I would like to say that the resources and information that Experian and its websites provide are invaluable in combating an evasive enemy. For those who are confused about the ratings that WOT shows for these websites, look no further. What we have on our hands is just a war between people who do research before commenting, and people who do not. Now, since this corporation has no one assigned to defend its good name, I will do so. 1. The better business Bureau has clearly rated Experian and all of its websites with a grade of "A" (On a scale of A+ to F), And Experian itself a grade of "A+." The only reason these grades are not all "A+" is because some of Experian's websites have not existed long enough to have an exceptional amount of reputation. 2. "Bob Zenith" had an issue with Experian about two years ago. He was frustrated that an enormous corporation that employs over 17,000 has multiple websites and advertises in order to draw in customers. Absurd, isn't it? He went on to complain that Experian and its websites do not give out free credit reports, down-rated the company and its websites, and encouraged all readers to do the same. 3. In conclusion I would like to address any other confused users of this wonderful program (WOT) in saying "Please, PLEASE, for the love of god do some research before falling for other people's garbage." ^_^

The service itself may be legitimate, but they purposely make the "fine print" difficult to find and harder to understand. They know that many people will pay the monthly fee and not realize it until it is too late (for the customer, of course). And they seem to only issue refunds if a customer makes a complaint with a consumer protection group. They are UNTRUSTWORTHY. *****

Experian is a business. Of course it advertises. We're all tired of fast food ads, but we don't claim that Burger King is trying to engage in identity theft. Experian provides a service some people need and others just want, it advertises, and it charges a fee. Big whoop.

Everything indicates this is a legit Experian associated site. The WHOIS record for protectmyid.com shows a clear linkage to Experian. I see no child safety concerns at a credit monitoring services site.

A legitimate site for Experian

Provides useful way to monitor your credit report status for a monthly fee. I found it a valuable resource that also can report to one's cell phone. Just be aware that some of their ads, e.g., getting your credit score, can be misleading and nothing is free here.

I don't understand the low ratings... it's an ID protection site that our state employees use... This is one of the weaknesses of "open source" projects like WOT -- anyone with an opinion can contribute. One of the low ratings below cites: "the ads on TV look fishy" -- so he rated the site low? Please! Stick to evaluating the destination on it's maliciousness people!
