Is secure.logmeinrescue.com Safe?

This is a legitimate site, but the owners are doing nothing about the fact that scammers are using the site to complete a scam that victimizes PC users with little technical knowledge. There should be a warning for those who come to the site as the result of a "technical support" phone call. This could be done without inconveniencing legit users. This is why I am selecting both "Good site" and "Scam" in the site ratings. Yes, this is a legitimate business site. But it is also being used on a massive scale for a scam, and the site owners appear to be complacent about this.

This is a legitimate site used for remote-access purposes, HOWEVER these services are often used by phone con-artists to hack into the unwary user's machine and steal account passwords, etc. Read this accounting: ***** Beware.

They try to get into your computer by letting you log onto their site, supposedly to help you get rid of viruses. Proof of viruses they provide: they show you how to open EventViewer and point out that there are error entries there. Shameless. As soon as you ask them to get a decent job they hang up.

This is an honest site but is being used by scammers. The way to help is to try and get the six digit security code from them and pass this and the time and date of the call onto LogMeIn Rescue team. An essential tool for remote monitoring and control of customer computers. Unfortunately it has, as the negative comments indicate, also been used by vishers after conning people into granting them access to their computers. That's not the fault of LogMeIn, who record every LogMeIn Rescue session and hold it securely for 4 years (see page 7 of https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/Common/Pdfs/rescue_architecture.pdf). Their Acceptable Use Policy (https://secure.logmein.com/policies/acceptable_use.aspx) states the actions they will take for AUP violations and provides a reporting link. I imagine that an email to "abuse[at]logmein[dot]com" would also work.

The site itself is good, don't misunderstand that. Someone is using it though to gain remote access under the name of Microsoft. I had a funny feeling about it when they said that they would need access to my computer so I said that a warning popped up telling me that this site was tagged as a Scamming or Phishing site (even though it really hadn't). Not 10 seconds after saying that, the owner of the very thick Indian accent hung up on me! Beware someone calling you, knowing your last name, telling you that your computer is infected with something more dangerous than a virus and wanting you to give them remote access through the ***** site.

People who are giving a negative review are misinforming the population. This website is from Logmein, which is a trusted company. You purchase a subscription from LogMeIn to use their services. It is those people who are doing the scamming, not LogMeIn themselves, so don't punish the company. The best way to report these scams are to contact LogMeIn so they can shut down the accounts.
