Is slrhut.co.uk Safe?

Unlike other reviewers, I have bought from this site. It seems a little unfair of them giving negative reviews without first hand experience. Of course, it isn't unknown for competitors to leave bad reviews to discourage others. Twice, the purchase went well, The goods turned up promptly. There were no import duties or hidden charges as other reviewers reported. Once, the item did not turn up and I received a full refund. They had run out of stock. I have had a similar experience with a reputable UK retailer. It happens. It's not the end of the world. The price of the camera body and lenses were around 30% less than any other vendor. Yes, they are "grey" items, but the camera equipment I bought had a worldwide warranty. (Olympus) I have not ever had any failure of Olympus equipment within the warranty period. We are benefiting from a worldwide market. Enjoy it while you can! As always when making on-line purchases, pay with your credit card and you are protected by the Consumer Credit Act in the UK. Do check your manufacturer's guarantee arrangements before buying. A manufacturer not giving an international guarantee says more about the shortcomings of that manufacturer than a retailer.

This is a UK listed site with a UK contact number, but is not based in the UK. In itself it's not too much of a problem it just mens that their products come up top on price as they quote without import duties. The real problem is that most of what they sell will be ineligable for manufacturer warranty as they are selling into a market the products were not made for. For example, I was lured to the site by a too-good-to-be-true price on a Nikon Camera. In the basket there was a near 30% increase for the duty taking it to very near UK retail pricing. Nikon give a two year warranty on all cameras brought in the UK from an authorised reseller which SLRHut is not. Nikon, as with most electronics manufacturers, will only repair items that are warrantied in the country of their purchase and will refuse repair under any other circumstances, even if your willing to pay. So you might save a few percentage points on price but in general you'll be losing far more than you gain. Better to buy from an authorised UK reseller if you can afford to.

This site had the highest WOT rating I've ever encountered and is very highly rated on other sites. However, something about being near perfect for a company I've never heard of caused me to dig deeper and I did find some very negative feedback on ***** which seemed more plausible than the positive so, personally, I'll pay more to deal with a company I have used already Please note:when I wrote this review the site rated at 100% but this has now reduced.
