I would only use this site if you know what your doing. I tried downloading a dll injector off the site and my computer INSTANTLY blocked it. It detected a virus in it but i know some other things are safe on it so i would be careful using the site.
SourceFourge has everything ranging from safe software, to malware-laden junk. As with any other download site, use caution and research software before you download.
I wouldn't recommend for average users, but it is a fantastic source of some excellent pieces of software, for those who are willing to spend the time it takes to ensure that they are not downloading junk.
Rating 10% trustworthiness (deep red), 40% child safety (BARELY in the yellow)
See changedx's comment for reasoning. If you still download from this site, then run ALL of the downloaded programs through a reputable malware scanner (NOT Norton or McAfee), without exception.
They may have "fixed" the problems in the meantime, but I don't trust them not to do it again.
К сожалению, sourceforge решил пойти по проторенному пути других файлопомоек и начал без ведома авторов добавлять в Windows-дистрибутивы программ (GIMP) левый софт. Будьте крайне внимательны при установке программ с sourceforge.
Since I posted my last review they have cleaned up their act.
Even Windows Users can breathe easily here now: they have new owners who shut down the "Install Wrappers" on their projects within 6 months.
I now trust and recommend them again.
Downloaded Audacity from this Sourcefourge pretending to be the real site and my laptop immediately got extremely buggy/slow, it was opening random tabs and windows and crashed very frequently, it's actually the most severe damage my PC has had in the 4 years I've had it, I was able to mostly fix my laptop by reinstalling Windows, I also don't even recommend WOT anymore because it said that Sourcefourge is safe.
On Sunday, July 24, 2016 I downloaded the "Open Icon Library" from SourceForge at https://sourceforge.net/projects/openiconlibrary/?source=directory
After download I scanned it with Avast antivirus and it detected the "win32 Crypt-RVM Trojan" -- which is a 'Ransomware' virus. I had always thought that SourceForge was a trustworthy site that was safe and beyond suspicion. IT IS NEITHER. Make sure this site is thoroughly and permanently blocked in your HOSTS file and in all other security programs.
WARNING -- THIS SITE DOWNLOADS RANSOMWARE TROJAN VIRUSES
While many downloads on this site are safe, there is some malware to be aware of. I don't like it when official websites redirect their download links here because there is often unwanted programs that come with other things you download. If possible, only download software from the official site, not CNet, not Sourceforge, etc... So because of the unwanted programs/malware, I'd have to say that the trustworthiness should be suspicious, and child safety should be not suitable. And no, I don't agree that this is a good site.
In addition to trouble with their ads looking like download buttons and leading to malware, they have begun to commandeer "abandoned" open source projects so they can bundle advertisements in the installer.
See http://www.gimp.org/, the 2015-05-26 entry for an example.
Edit:
This site is under new ownership. It looks like they may be cleaning up the mess. Softened my rating to suspicious, and will revisit later.
No longer a reputable site, according to some (see below). Bundles crapware or worse with downloads.
