This organization uses aggressive legal strategies that are aimed at killing disclosure laws, at the state level, that allow citizens to determine the origins of "dark money" – unlimited donations from corporations, individuals, and unions. This money is often used to unduly influence elections. This organization also takes in "dark money" for its operations, as well. Very untrustworthy and unethical. See: *****

Only downgrade was for ideological reasons. This rating system should be above that.

CFIF primarily creates legal strategies to remove disclosure laws at the state level. It receives funding via dark money, such as Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS 501c4. Quick googling found the above information. I rate it suspicious because its tagline "The Center for Individual Freedom protects individual rights, individual freedom and all rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution" is not consistent with its true activities. They are currently running commercials against allowing Puerto Rico to declare bankruptcy, so I assume that some of CFIF's donors have a financial interest in not allowing bankruptcy protection for Puerto Rico.

Great information that some people might not agree with due to political ideology. It's unfair to hold a website's viewpoint against them just because it doesn't agree with your own.
