You seem to be confused as to what the word "spam" means in a digital context. "Spam" is an unsolicited message (such as an email) that is sent without the recipients consent. "Display advertising" on the other hand is a an advertisement that is shown to a user while they are browsing content on a website.
We do not "spam" or send unsolicited messages to anyway. We never have. We do, however, provide free digital content to users while also showing relevant display ads around that content. It's kind of like how when you are listening to a program on the radio, and then an "advertisement" comes on during the broadcast. Or if you are reading the newspaper and you see an "ad" for a product on one of the pages (in this case, you might have even paid for the publication without 'soliciting' the advertiser). Or even the mother of scams, the "let's go out to the lobby" nonsense that might berate you in the name of consumerism before your favorite talkie starts on a Saturday night...
Generally speaking, advertising is one of the main methods content providers use to cover their operating expenses. Right now, you are basically complaining about wanting your money back on a free sample...
