Completely safe webstie. Use for checking breaches

This doesn't really help if the breach is from a site that you haven't used for a long time but used to have an account on.

Run by a supposed computer security guru that Google says he "checks out"; his name is Troy Hunt. Anyway he sends you an email and says he's run your email address through a database and he can tell if you've been hacked and your information has been compromised. So I get his report and he tells me the names of these 8 websites that have hacked my info. But it's really interesting because in order for them to have my name, email address, password, credit card, etc, etc, I would have had to have been to that website. Most of the websites he told me that had my info were these dating websites. Now I'm 60 years old, been married 25 years and have never been to these dating sites in my life. So I know Troy is full of it and obviously trying to sell me something. Come to find out he's trying to sell me some secure password software. Of course! No thanks buddy. You're slick but not that slick.

This is a very useful website that tells you if any private data relating to Usernames or Email Addresses you enter on this website leads to any known data breaches that it finds has has been leaked or stolen in the past. My personal experience and this sites policy allow me to enter my email address which is public information here safely and trust it won't be spammed or sold to 3rd parties. I thus have to disagree with the other rater mentioning concern about entering your email address here. An email address should only be viewed as public information and yes it helps to reduce spam by being cautious about the sites you freely give it away to but it will not protect you in the event of a breach. Also wanted to re-affirm that your passwords shouldn't be the same across different websites anyway (especially email provider) so the type of mentality is very poor judgement in the first place and that you should re-evaluate and think more on how you handle your security. It's smarter to have both a "Main" and "Junk" email at your disposal anyway just to thwart spam and you are safe to enter both here. Now with that said I take my security very serious and with no fault of my own this site has found breaches that I didn't know about because the companies tried to sweep the issue under the rug. One example would be vBulletin and it leaking of quite a bit of personal data but a good one to watch for that it leaked is questions and answers that help me reset my account if my password there was lost or forgotten. I have no idea what I had entered there for these fields but if I had trusted the concept and used truthful information then used that same information on my main email address for resetting its password; it could be a major cause for concern for potential account theft. I usually do not answer the fields honestly and type random things in them. I do use a Password Manager to generate random passwords above 12 characters long (often 16-20 range) of random gibberish so I not concerned if hackers were to reverse its encrypted passwords some day or even if they already did because that password is used no where else. Since I use a Password Manger I know where to turn if I ever need my password information and there is only one password I need to remember for that so I make it a very good and hard to enter one. I also secure it with secondary methods which most have.

Do not enter any username or email address this site. My friend who check to emails in this site got in trouble because of this site. Google account shutted down, iCloud account has suspended for a while. I did not know what the reason behind this event but DO NOT ENTER ANY INFORMATION THIS SITE.

I largely agree with the previous poster. The site has a great idea here to check against known breeches- but you are giving out your address again. What is most important is militantly following good security practices such as using password managers instead of one lame PW, religiously protecting your Email address and only giving it out selectively, quitting unsafe institutions, break your addiction to social networks... These are the kinds of things that are going to truly cut the mustard.
