For an accurate assessment of Transcendental Meditation, visit ***** or ***** or ***** --- because the claims made about TM on this website are utterly false. All one has to do to assess TM is use common sense, look at the scientific research, and consider the kind of highly credentialed people supportive of TM (Dr. Norman Rosenthal, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Russell Simmons, Paul McCartney, Candy Crowley, etc.) -- and then, consider the agendas of those few fringe people who attack it. Apologists for Mr. Knapp, including himself, have tried to defend his libelous, disingenuous site by making further false claims and denigrating those who rate his site poorly. If one checks my own ratings, for example, it is clearly untrue that I have rated only "pro-TM" sites highly and rated the 2 or 3 anti-TM smear sites down. Unfortunately, complaints have been lodged against Mr. Knapp by his own clients -- see ***** for a sample. Last I checked, the New York State licensing board was investigating complaints against Mr. Knapp for abusing a client and possibly misusing his social worker license. Mr. Knapp falsely and ridiculously claims that TM is a "multi-billion dollar corporation that sells...meditation for exorbitant prices" -- blatant falsehoods for which he can offer zero proof. TM is strictly non-profit, always operating at break even, and gives scholarships and grants so anyone can learn TM. Many people learn for free. Dissenting opinons are natural but people have a right to correct factually erroneous accusations.

i understand that this person needs business and is hoping to lure potential customers, but his claims are self-serving and disingenuous, and contrary to very well established scientific studies.

It is very important to understand that former members of controversial cults are almost always targets of cult members and their paid agents. I am a therapist and have also gotten poor rating at my site ***** but the reality is that I am a published author, have been an expert for news organizations as well as news shows and have an excellent reputation. I can vouch for John Knapp and feel that he is a very smart, good hearted person who truly cares about victims of mind controlling groups and relationships. Steve Hassan M.Ed, LMHC NCC

A quick look at profiles for LightYearZ and tommckinleyball show that they are single-minded in up rating sites that are approved by the Transcendental Meditation Organization, a multi-billion-dollar corporation that sells their brand-named meditation courses for exorbitant prices. And down rating any site that raises questions about TM. I own the site, knappfamilycounseling.com. These users misrepresent what I do. There comments may in fact be defamatory in the legal sense of the term. I have never said that meditation is a cult behavior. Not once. This would be ridiculous as I've meditated one way or another since my early teens until today—and have written this publicly numerous times. Rather than try to convince anyone that they need any form of counseling, I go to great pains to say that the majority of meditators enjoy their experience and have no need of help in any way. I've stated for 16 years that TM is as good or better than any other beginner's technique. I have, however, objected for years to the abusive and exploitative BEHAVIOR of the TM corporation around the globe. TM as a business is not the same as meditation, which I generally support. I love individual TM meditators—their spirituality, creativity, intelligence, desire for world peace. I myself was a TM teacher for 17 years and don't for one second renounce the spirit of optimism, positivity, openness, and altruism that once infused the TM movement and led me to join in the first place. But no matter how noble it once was, TM has degenerated into the sort of group that views any critic as an enemy—justifying desperate, organized, no-holds-barred attacks on character and career. I mean, childish stuff like I'm mentally unstable or use drugs. Yeah, and I rustle sheep and screw puppies, too, What the hell are they afraid of? I'm just one person. If I'm a fool, no one will listen to me. LightYearZ has commented similarly on another site, freedomofmind.com, run by another critic of TM and similar groups. OTOH, I can understand why the TM Org, which charges $1,500 to teach a basic mantra meditation available freely from books, might really feel threatened by a therapist who has treated over 1,000 people alleging abuse at their hands—at little or no cost. (Clients pay $40/session on average. At least 20% of my practice is pro bono at all times.) Guys, you claim to represent Supreme Knowledge and that you can influence the weather, lower crime, stop war, levitate, and bring Heaven on Earth. You seriously can't handle a few critics? J.

I have a problem with a counselor who trolls the Internet trying to convince people that meditation is a cult behavior and that they need his counseling which he provides for a fee over the Internet. Something is just not right about this guy and his practice.
