Sending unsolicited commercial email=spam
Spamming is a sign of a website that puts little value on its long term reputation. Part of what you are paying for when you get a degree is the value ot the school's reputation. So its future prospects are very pertinent to your decision.
Spam is being sent via their affiliate at choosecollegeonline.com:

Getting email you don't want from a legitimate organization is not the same as a site sending you spam.... and it's an edu domain, dummy.
