While not an outright scam, saying the list is sent to the US copyright office implies that you are legitimately registering the star.
Basically anyone can do the same; you are paying for the frame and the piece of paper. I can do the same thing (with the same legitimacy) with any inexpensive pc app.

Some people are uneducated. This is a novelty. It delivers what it promises. I have purchased 2 stars and couldn't be more happy.The two recipients loved the gifts. It is a unique gift. Two thumbs up STARREGISTRY.
Utile
Not romantic, not cute, just an irritant for astronomers who get asked by people to find their star. There are plenty of stories of people getting into fights with Astronomers because they can't find their stars.
Yes they do write that it won't be accepted by the IAU, but, not on the certificate (so the customer might not realise)

Well of course this is not an "official" star naming site. How silly. It is, however, a delightful idea for gift giving ... and a bit educational also. I "bought" a star for my older brother six or eight years ago... he absolutely loved it. One of the most fun gifts I've ever given. When my brother was a young guy he always talked about his version of a utopian world... and we all referred to it as "(his name)landia" ... so of course I gave the star that name. My brother adores the star map that points out the location of "his" star ... plus his "official" certificates. All pretend but too too fun to resist... a very creative gift idea. Enjoy!

Seriously, you people are freaking dense. Obviously the IAU gives stars their official names.
This is a fun, sweet and romantic thing to do for someone special. I gave one to my girlfriend 5 years ago and all her (female) friends and family were jealous. The company employees do a great job, have rapid shipping and superb customer service.
If you're too cheap too afford to buy someone a star or jealous because you didn't get one, please don't lie and call the company and their services a "scam". Just suck it up and be a grown-up about it.

I have used this site and find it to be reliable and they came through with my star for the wife of my brother. As far as I am concerned they were honorable and safe and would recommend them!
