Lots of good info from reputable travelers but susceptible to skewing. In particular, individual investors in vacation properties have talked up their own developments to overcome frank, negative comments from disinterested visitors; ref, for example, the multiply bankrupted Buccament Bay Resort in St. Vincent.
This website promotes activities that seem to be designed to show negative results about businesses.
In this regard it is malicious and common sense needs to be exercised.
Content is never taken down, no matter how ancient it is, even when an advertised property has changed hands, refurbished or upgraded the negative (or otherwise) follows it.
This makes its reviews and its relevancy suspect.
Old postings are never deleted and negative reviews are never removed making the content a liability to a potential renter.
Negative reviews are always posted - positive reviews appear harder to get posted.
Mostly populated by people who have an axe to grind.
Exercise caution and common sense - this is a potentially malicious site.
I have very mixed feelings about TripAdvisor. From a hotel owners perspective it is great and terrible. It gives some potentially bad customers the ability to slander a hotel and can frighten some owners and their staff into doing things they would not normally do. However, it does provide good and recent traveler information. It remains unclear how the TripAdvisor algorithm works to compute ratings as there are often hotels and restaurants in the number one position that are new and only have a few reviews while long standing establishments with hundreds of great reviews and only a couple bad ones appear at much lower rankings.
