An excellent small university. Washburn is a publicly funded, independently governed, state coordinated university. Established in 1865, it is a municipal/county (Topeka/Shawnee County) and State of Kansas funded university, coordinated by the Kansas Board of Regents since 1991. Washburn is governed by its own nine-member Board of Regents.
