THERE IS NO NEED for that, because they use standard rechargeable batteries with standard specifications (AAA, NiMH, in this case 1,2Volt, 1000mA) but Black Diamond made the lamp detecting other brands. Usually this kind of questionable-sales-mentality is used the sell normal product for a higher price and force customers to only their brand. This also means that you have to pack more then necessary number of (spare) batteries and have extra load to carry on your trips. However, browsing the net (and complaining to many outdoor friends and forums) and talking to technical departments of Varta, Duracell brings solutions to circumvent this. For legal reasons: look/inquire for yourself. This vendor-lock-in is MISLEADING and in Europe (maybe elsewhere too) possibly unlawful. The headlamp will be sent back to the seller and will buy another brand: Petzl. We have placed yet another USA brand (lifelong!) on our blacklist: dishonest, not integer, unethical. We do not want to support (buy) at companies with these low moral standards of conduct! This 'tying' has also been reported to the EU commission on (Fair) Trade and The National Competition Regulator and some battery brands. Ofwel: het apparaat detecteert elk ander merk en WEIGERT die te laden. Dit soort methoden zijn puur en specifiek bedoelt om de gebruiker te verplichten de eigen (vaak duurdere) producten te verkopen, terwijl de markt ruimschoots alternatieven biedt. Terwijl dit niet nodig zou moeten zijn want de specificaties van de oplaadbare batterijen (AAA, NiMH, in dit geval 1,2Volt, 1000 mA) zijn een van de standaardspecificaties van oplaadbare batterijen DIE OVERAL TE KOOP ZIJN VAN ELK ANDER MERK. Extra nadeel: als je reservebatterijen mee wilt nemen, moet je dus extra van deze merkspecifieke meenemen op elke trip die je maakt. Extra gewicht en ruimte in de rugzak dus, wat niet nodig is. Echter, surfen en informeren in forums levert ook de manieren op om deze minne verkoopmethode van zielige Amerikane te omzeilen. Deze vendor-lock-in zijn MISLEIDENDE praktijken en deze vorm van koppelverkoop is mogelijk ONWETTIG in Europa en misschien elders ook. De hoofdlamp gaat retour naar de leverancier en we vallen teug op eerste keuze: Petzl. Tevens Black Diamond op de zwarte lijst geplaatst van oneerlijke, niet integere, onethische bedrijven. We steunen met onze omzet geen bedrijven met zulke lage morele standaarden. We hebben dit voorval dan ook gemeld aan de EU Commissie en Nationale Mededingingsautoriteit.
