I don't know who pays WOT to keep this web page reputation in the green but you will likely DIE if you believe some of the stupid advice given on this web page. Not to say all the advice is bad, but if you don't already know the answer, how do you know. I also see people who claim to be experts giving nonsense advice. Remember the experts hate DIYers as it takes from their profit. If you really want to know how to do something buy a book on the subject- really!

I am an experienced DIYer and the content, some of which is intended to be used in modifying (extremely expensive) houses seems hastily written, inaccurate and likely to cause health issues and structural damage. Example for installing attic flooring: 1. they say nothing about checking that the floor structure will take the weight of your intended use. 2. they say "consider the build up of heat and cold temperatures because they will warp the boards". No, differential moisture changes warp boards! 3. they say "Lay a plastic barrier between the flooring and the joists. This will keep any humidity, or moisture, from the house from coming up into the wood." This will modify the carefully designed flow of moisture from the home interior. If you lay down plastic and the attic gets cold, moisture from the interior will condense on the plastic - and cause mold, mildew and rotted joists. I put in a plastic vapor barrier in a well-house before I knew what I was doing and had a NASTY mildew problem as a result! It went away when I added proper ventilation. I recommend ***** (I have no connection with them beyond admiring the site) for science-based expert information in this area. Don't know about vendor reliability or privacy.
