There is no guarantee that this advertising is virus-free, and even less that the sites to which it spins off are in any way safe. This launching of other sites in place of the requested site is one of the most dangerous features to be found on the Internet - more Trojans and viruses get onto personal computers and other Internet-access devices in this way than by any other means.
