I think EE shouldn't be rated poorly just because it is a pay site. I am a member of EE and it is definitely worth the money. Sometimes it is difficult to find reliable information on the net when you are in a hurry (or even sometimes when you are not!). Besides, if you have extra time on your hands you don't have to pay. Just answer some questions and earn enough points to get a membership for free. That's why it's called "Experts Exchange".
Tells you to pay for things you could get on other websites for free, you could scroll down the page to find the answers for free as said by icepick66. It is a scam to get money off you. Don't do it.
so f***ed up website, they think they the only ppl on the whole planet to come up with I.T solutions, there are loads of other websites out there who gives solutions and advice for free.
Our company has been utilizing experts-exchange for years and have been quite please with the results. While a majority of the information can be found around the net, this place puts it all in one place. While getting advice from peers regarding IT issues.
This is a forum where users can get help from experts (rather than a general community, like with Usenet). I have never received spam from there. Your e-mail address is kept secret from others. The forums are moderated so you don't see spam, pirate, crack, or other derogatory or negative posts. Users come here to get professional quality help. Because of this, anyone seeking *real* help from *real* experts has to PAY to get help. If they want the type of generic help they get in Usenet then go there. If they cannot find a solution there or in free forums then they come here to pay to get a solution. If none of the solutions work for them, no points are deducted from their account. You do not have to pay to give help. Anyone can volunteer to be an expert. You accrue points if the customer accepts your solution as the one that helped them (you can get all the points or just some of them if your help only assisted the customer). The customer gets to decide if help was real, if it worked, and to whom points should be awarded. If their discussion goes stagnant (i.e., they don't come back to finish the problem resolution or no one offers a workable solution), a moderator will close the thread and refund the points to the customer. So you come here to get expert help and you pay for it. You can volunteer to be an expert and accrue points that lets you ask your own questions for free. So you pay to get real help and you earn points to get help if you volunteer. No one gets to review any solutions unless they are registered on this site. After all, the idea is customers pay for real help and volunteers earn points they can use later to get real help, and this is being done for free so it obviously isn't going to be shared in some Google results list. Most of the complaints here are "It is listed in a Google search so it should be free". Wrong. Searches only tell you WHERE to find information, not that it will free or not. If you want the help for free, go to those free forums and Usenet. When you can't get a solution there, ask here. If you don't get a solution here, you do NOT pay. If you do get a solution, you pay. If you took your computer to a shop to have it repaired because your family, neighborhood wizard, or coworker couldn't fix it, you think the shop isn't going to charge you just because sometimes you can get help for free? The complaints here are from a bunch of freeloaders that, like children, expect the world to give away free whatever the child desires. Saying the volunteers here are experts can be pushing that definition - but then why all the complaints about having to pay (only if a solution is offered) from volunteers who obviously came here looking to help? Again, whiners that want something real for free. If all those free venues for help were so great, this place wouldn't exist.
While this site may be useful, most the information can be found for free online if you know how to look. Yes they do use a cloakling method to get top ranks on google. I wish you could do a pay per use membership as paying monthly does get quite expensive after a while. I only use this site once or twice a month, not hardly enough to merit paying for it.
No spams or anything, And the link to cancel is pretty easy to find. Tho they do need to start emailing users the payment receipt... you have to login to the site to find that, just to print it out.
I've been on EE for a couple of years, first as a paid member, then as an 'expert'. I understand the annoyance of being lured in only to have to pay for a solution, but EE has been very helpful in quickly finding solutions I couldn't find elsewhere, and well worth the price.
Don't think of this site as a fraud, scam or phishing scheme, but a well-organized, 'gated' community that is constantly improving.
