Choose friends wisely. ;) You control your own privacy settings and you can delete posts, but you have no way of knowing what your friends will post to your account. Photos, language, violent games, etc... Parents should be aware of what could find its way onto the site from friends and relatives. Also, some individual programs and add-ons contain nothing but spam and spyware. Use caution.

I almost lost my mom to this site. One guy she met as a 'friend' had ultimately tried his best to win her over by sweet-talking into leaving my dad. Oh the revenge i would love to inflict on this guy.. he even had a family of his own (a wife and two kids)!! My mom had a hard time getting over this guy too, and she had only known him for about a couple months. Not 100% sure why she would ever think of leaving my dad as he does everything and then some for her. I guess this guy filled a void that my mom couldn't have with the relationship she was already in. There ARE people out on this site that need their balls cut off and for that reason i lost all the reason i could possibly give this site. A very moody family we were for about a good week after my dad found an explicit photo of the man on the computer. There is merit to this site if it can be used appropriately. Husbands, keep an eye on your woman!

If there is any comment here this is the one you should read. Facebook is a great way for you to stay connected with friends. I have been using for over a year and it's great. It does not directly install spyware or viruses on your computer. Comments about the privacy policy and files being on the server forever are old. The policy has been updated. Facebook does no longer own uploaded content. SOME Applications MIGHT take information but they get deleted by facebook shortly after. You just need to avoid dubious, unsafe of fake-looking looking applications and you are safe. Just because 0.1% of the applications keep your profile picture does not make it a bad site. Ads you can block with the Firefox Add-Ons Boost for Facebook and/or AdBlock Plus.

I had a virus attempt to download itself on my computer today. It claimed to be a virus scanner, but when I cancelled the scan it tried to download an executable file on to my computer which AVG monitors showed me.
