Though it does host NSFW content, unregistered users usually will not see any of it.
But there are some instances of Users rating their submissions wrong. While they do have admins to check submissions for proper rating, in the time before it is checked it is still visible to unregistered users.
Also, it would be rather simple for a minor to lie about their age to view the NSFW posts on the site.
The "gruesome content" isn't true either, it seems to be someone's idea of a cruel joke to continue to tag furry art websites as having some.

While there may be NSFW content, it is hidden from anyone who is not of legal age. Staff are on top of violations of this.

All content must be rated appropriately or face being reported and removed by staff, any age sensitive content can only be viewed behind a age gate.
