While the site itself may be completely free of malware, the software which people commonly download from it, JAVA, is known to have security vulnerabilities! Although I haven't experienced it myself, there are reports out there on Yahoo and I'm sure many other sites, about low-level malware being installed, and their browsing data being watched.

An sich ist an Java nicht auszusetzen. Sicherheitstechnisch ist das Ganze zwar äußerst bedenklich, aber das solte allgemein bekannt sein. Wirklich nervig ist nur, bei jeder Installation soll einem die ASK-Toolbar untergeschoben werden. Das kann man zwar unterbinden, sollte jedoch tunlichst darauf achten, das nie zu vergessen. Es ist nämlich gar nicht so leicht, dan Mist wieder loszuwerden, wenn man ihn erstmal hat.

Also, Java has of late had a lot of security problems, allowing malware onto your computer through various Java exploits. It's a useful program, with legitimate applications, but one should be cautious using/installing it.
