"Spyware" doesn't quite fit, but there isn't a category that does. This site stores your password as plain text. (If you forget your password, they mail it to you, which wouldn't be possible if they didn't have it stored.) Your password isn't encrypted in any way. So if the site gets hacked (as has happened to some of the most seemingly secure ones), if you have used the same username/password anywhere else, the hacker can also access those other sites under your name. It's not considered adequate website security in the year 2011, and it's surprising that a company as long-established as Lycos hasn't updated its code to protect its users. In addition, anyone who wants your email address just has to enter your username in the password reminder field. The site will tell that person what email address the password was sent to. Very useful for spammers looking for email addresses, but again, a surprising lack of attention to basic procedure by Lycos.
