Web Of Trust Browser Add-On Blasted For Breaking User Trust
*****
How serious a transgression is this? Serious enough that Mozilla has already removed the WOT browser add-on from their site saying that it violated their guidelines for transparency. Numerous WOT users have expressed their outrage on Reddit and commented on articles discussing the NDR findings.
Many feel violated and have uninstalled the WOT add-on from their browsers. Understandably, they’ve gone looking for alternatives. Many have turned to a similar tool called Traffic Light offered by BitDefender, a Romanian security firm.

'An investigation by German public broadcaster NDR revealed that MyWOT (WOT, or Web Of Trust) has been selling user data to third-parties without properly anonymizing user information, which in some cases exposed the user's real identity and details about his browsing habits."
This is the site that you are reading this on!

Fun?
Unfortunately, it's been discovered that MyWOT is grabbing your browser history, including usernames, mailing addresses, illnesses you've searched for, and other PII, and is selling it to third parties without properly anonymyzing it. German TV channel NDR dug into the extension and discovered the privacy issues, and it's been reported on PC Magazine, Lifehacker, and pretty much everywhere else by now.MyWOT offers an incredibly valuable service, so it's especially sad that they've fallen flat on the "Trust" part themselves.
Overall, I consider MyWoT a useful and informative site. I've contributed a great many ratings and comments here over the years.
However, a German investigation revealed that the MyWoT browser extension was used to collect records of user's browsing. The data generated was then sold without being adequately anonymized, creating very serious privacy risks for users. For a web reputation site that lists 'privacy risks' as a reason to be cautious when visiting a website, this is unacceptable.
See ***** for more.
They sell your information with user identifiable information to third parties without informing the user and is contrary to their own privacy policy. Also funny, you don't see any new reviews for this site, everything is 3-5 or more years old. Why do you suppose that would be?

Just posting again as my last post got deleted, just expressing my thoughts as i would for any other website.
Scumbags sell your browsing data, often containing enough data to identify you, to third parties without any consent from you. So much for "trust". Source: *****
