This is a safe site. It is a politically Conservative website. Possibly Liberal "Progressives" (WOT?) are indicating the site if not trustworthy? Like all political news/action websites, be careful about "boxes" that are checked by default which you may wish to uncheck.
Too much hate speech. Everything on the site is misleading and out of touch with what people really think. The 1940s are over. They're not only drinking the Kool-Aid, they're spiking it with the Blue Pill.
Awesome site for truth. Thank you OMM for fighting the alphabet mafia ! WOT, your rating system is completely biased and unhelpful as you do not do what you claim you do. I dont give a damn about your political social justice warrior opinion of a site. This site is not harmful in anyway. WOT your service is a disgrace and I will be removing your app.
this is a wonderful & safe site. the ones giving it bad ratings are left wing anti Christian haters. there is nothing bigoted about having christian principles.
This is a very good site. The group exists for concerned parents and citizens who want to protect children from the complicated subjects of adulthood. Childhood used to be a time of innocence. This sight gives parents a voice to protect childhood innocence.
THIS IS NOT A "HOMOPHOBIC HATE SITE."
This is a site that lets parents know about bad stuff in TV, movies, etc.
I repeat: THIS IS NOT A "HOMOPHOBIC HATE SITE."
**PLEASE KNOW THAT I DO NOT- I REPEAT, DO NOT- HATE THE LGBT COMMUNITY. I RESPECT THEM AS PEOPLE. MY BIGGEST APOLOGIES TO THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO FOUND THIS SITE HATEFUL.**
My understanding of Web of Trust (WOT) is that its purpose is to protect internet users from THREATS such as “scams, unreliable web stores and questionable content. It complements traditional security solutions that protect computers against technical threats such as viruses and other harmful software.”
I have visited this website to see what all the fuss is about because some of the negative reviews are confusing and appear to be overly politicized opinions in disagreement with conservative principles.
My personal assessment is that OneMillionMoms is a media-watch organization that solidly cares about progressively negative influences and maintaining traditional moral values. They want ‘family-friendly’ TV viewing content and a safe environment for children to grow and thrive. It appears that they are evangelical Christian activists.
Agree or disagree. Boycotting TV programs, advertisements and/or commercial products that push beyond the boundaries of safe content for children does not qualify them as a technical threat. They are straight-up honest about their purpose. Their MISSION clearly states:
"OneMillionMoms.com, a division of the American Family Association, was begun to give moms an impact with the decision-makers and let them know we are upset with messages they are sending our children and the values (or lack of them) they are pushing. Our goal is to stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media (TV, music, movies, etc.).”
Whether you like (or hate/distrust) their fundamental ideology is personal opinion. But this organization, located in Tupelo, MS, is an accredited and trusted 501(c)(3). Activities that fall under this non-profit category is: charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary… Their mission is to protect children from harmful mature content.
One other note concerning spam. I believe this accusation is false. Email alerts require active sign-up participation. That sign-up tab is located at the top of their website. Also, all businesses are required to enforce spam laws. This means that they must provide an UNSUBSCRIBE link in their campaigns —a requirement of the CAN-SPAM act.
My conclusion: Their website is SAFE to visit. No phishing, scams, spyware, viruses, trojans, obscene language, pornography, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, violence or fraudulent activity. This is a fact.
Imagine my surprise when I clicked on this website and was warned not to trust it. Perhaps it is WOT that cannot be trusted to be fair and impartial with website ratings. I imagine these courageous women are upsetting some advertisers :) Truth hurts their bottom line.
My rating: I Trust this website. Based on my experience, the site does what it promises. It does not pose any threats and content is provided by a trustworthy entity.
Note: I do not know why WOT status is showing not rated. I have given my rating, but WOT is not applying it.
It is my understanding that the Web of Trust website is to be used to identify widespread threats involving SPAM, MALICIOUS (MALWARE) CONTENT, VIRUSES, PHISHING OR OTHER SCAMS, BROWSER EXPLOITATION, ANNOYING ADS OR POPUPS, BAD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES, SPYWARE OR ADWARE, HATEFUL OR QUESTIONABLE CONTENT, ETHICAL ISSUES, ADULT CONTENT and overall CHILD SAFETY. The threat of “untrustworthy content” is meant for content INVOLVING the items mentioned above. By reading the “About Web of Trust WOT” section on the website one can learn the purpose is WEB SAFETY from purely TECHNICAL SECURITY to helping people find sites that they can actually trust.
Unfortunately there are individuals who do not understand that the WOT website is NOT MEANT for CONTRASTING POLITICAL OR RELIGIOUS VIEWS and have hijacked WOT for political and religious purposes. If all users were to do the same thing every website involving politics or religion would have the BIG RED CIRCLE attached to them. And that would include the websites of members of Congress, the Supreme Court and even the White House. This is because the American society has many, MANY diverse and often passionate contrasting political and religious views.
THIS PRACTICE DIMINISHES THE INTEGRITY AND CREDIBILITY OF THE WOT WEBSITE AND I WISH THE SITE WOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
