Official site for 0 A.D, a free, open-source, real-time strategy game.
This is a safe site, I have downloaded the game multiple times and never received a virus.
I haven't seen any reason for this site to be unsafe for children so far.

0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy game. It has high detailed graphics and realistic recreations of ancient cultures.

They are really trying to stay as true as possible to history and do a lot of research in order to make a game that truly represents the civilisations depicted in it as historians believe them to be. Of course this doesn't mean it's a game you should play in order to learn history xD (you're going to start believing the Gauls invaded Maurya) but it certainly does give one some familiarity with the ancient civilisations of Europe (and Asia). Their website has a lot of information about the game and about history and both website and forum are safe. I believe this also deserves a useful/informative tag.
