When I visited *****, WOT posted a red-bordered warning panel, with heavy, black type "Warning!" The message strip at top of my screen stated. "This site has a poor reputation based on user ratings". Curious, I went to the WOT link promising to provide the same user comments used to justify the site's poor rating. And I found no comment whatsoever. Further, SurfSecured.net is a repository run by Tech Republic for its articles on computer security, so quite naturally, the site will have topics related to hackers and malware. But there is no basis at all for the statement the site is a security hazard. Which suggests WOT offered a rating which is false, defamatory and misleading, on its face. For some time, I have been concerned about the apparent decline in WOT service quality, and this incident confirms WOT is in need of adult supervision. The current level of service-- its baseless evaluations, references to non-existent user ratings, and even its automatic assignment of a bad rating to a good site as a default (without user ratings) is the work of amateurs. As a computer industry professional, I am critical of bogus websites of all kinds, and must extend that negative evaluation to WOT. A serious effort must be made to improve quality of WOT evaluations, or responsible users should find a more credible service.
