winzip.comは安全ですか？

My husband has dementia. He still uses his computer as his link to the outside world. He has a credit card that auto pays his bills. I just discovered that WinZip has scammed him out of thousands of dollars selling him useless anti virus software with ‘warnings’ that he wasn’t being ‘protected‘. They sometimes sold him the same program multiple times in the same day. I just discovered this and was horrified at how this company operates. They have no customer service phone number and their billing is done through Cleverbridge, a third party site that can do nothing. My next stop is the FTC. Be warned if you have a vulnerable Senior in your household.

Now why would you get a program here to zip and unzip files when most computers come with some compressing and extracting program already?!? If you are using Linux, simply: sudo apt-get install zip unzip The programs offered here contain lots of junkware that can be downloaded without your approval if you don't read everything in the installation carefully. Typically in Windows and Mac, simply highlight all the files you want to compress, and right-click and select "compress". You should have an option to ZIP your files. On Linux, you may not have the software, but simply run the terminal command I have above and then follow the same steps. ZIPing a file is no rocket science and doesn't require WinZIP.

Like many other popular programs now, this is a legit program hidden behind lots of adware. Be very careful of the sly addition of adware installers in the setup program. I'd honestly just stay away from this program in general. Use 7Zip or WinRAR instead.

This program does find malware and fix problems. The problem I have with it, is that they make you pay to fix them. There are many programs out there that do not make you pay to fix issues. (Ex: CCleaner, and Malwarebytes.) This program comes with adware.

My ESET 4 reported 'Potential Threat Found' when downloading Winzip17 from their download site dl.*****. EST Msg = 'probably a variant of Win32/Systweak potentially unwanted application'. Note it does not say Virus or Malware Warning. Customer service at cleverbridge.com promptly repsponded to my request for refund no questions.
