There are so many spams, phishing, and scams of all kinds on Facebook, often in the form of banner ads and user testimonials. I've seen my fair share of work-at-home, penny auction, and miracle pill scams some "users" are pushing, and there are a TON of get free gaming cash, personality/IQ quizzes and breaking news/scandal posts written on walls that oftentimes inserts malicious code into your computer when you click on the link. Also, there are plenty of banner ads that hawk questionable products and services. While I personally don't have an account, I've seen my brother's and friends' walls and computers get bombarded with spam and viruses. Perhaps worst of all, there is absolutely NO privacy; encryption and security is nonexistent (my cousin who does internet security and software told and showed me this--he said that "basically anyone could hack into your profile"), and Facebook keeps ALL of your information! I know that Facebook keeps your information for a fact because one of my friends recently had a gigantic ordeal when he was trying to delete several explicit and inappropriate pictures of himself and his friends on his profile, and had to jump through several hoops to try to remove them. Though he successfully removed those pictures from his and his friends' galleries, he fears that one day those pictures will surface and come back to haunt him since Facebook pretty much refused to help him remove said pictures. It's a total LIE that Facebook "doesn't get viruses" or is "completely safe". Facebook is surely becoming a cesspool like Craigslist and Myspace. I'm glad I don't have an account, and I won't ever at this point unless Facebook cleans up their act.
UPDATE, 9/9/11: Beware of the login page. There has been a huge influx of trojans and viruses attacking the home/login page; my brother was forced to stop using facebook because his security software blocked several viruses every time he tried to log in.
