Switzerland-based Proton, the company behind ProtonMail and ProtonVPN, was forced to cooperate with the apprehension of a climate activist when Swiss authorities were asked to execute a French warrant. Though the company did try to fight the order, the judge ruled against the company, and the man was arrested—thanks in part to the information provided by ProtonVPN.

Probably the best email and VPN service available if you are at all concerned about privacy first. They have been proponents of user privacy for a very long time and are actively contributing to the push for user privacy being the norm.
Founded by CERN & MIT, i've been with them since they started back in 2017 (iirc). Well worth the $$$ not only for the services they provide but also for supporting their activism in the global community for privacy as the default standard for users.
